Our Guides, HQ, What to Bring, Items Provided, Safety and Responsibility

Our Guides

Our guides are all passionate and knowledgeable about the Bay of Islands area and bring something special to the walking experience.

Each walk has no more than 20 people.

Our HQ is the Russell Bowling Club where people can meet, chat about their day and have something to eat and drink.

Russell is a fantastic base for the weekend with lots of great restaurants, places to stay and for the non-walkers out there.

We are very excited about this weekend and the great walking experiences there are here in the Bay of Islands.

Time to get your walking boots out of the cupboard and join us in the Bay of Islands.

Headquarters for 2024:

The Russell Bowling Club

The Russell Bowling Club, 15 Church St, Russell is hosting the HQ and Education Centre for the walks. Unless otherwise advised, all walks start and finish at the Russell Bowling Club. Also gather there for after-match functions, photo of the day competition, best blister of the day…etc. Meet and talk with people and guides who have done the walks, to learn about local history, culture and environmental issues, to see what’s on offer in the market place, to listen to live music throughout the weekend and other evening events.

Safety and Responsibility

You walk at your own risk…

Read carefully the requirements for each walk, we take no responsibility for walkers being unprepared.

Participants should ensure that their fitness level is appropriate for the walk. Be in good time for your walk so you don’t miss the safety briefing.

If the walk is labeled No Dogs, then please respect this.

If a walk is not suitable for children, then please do not bring children. Please see the Walks Program for guidance about this.

Children must be accompanied by and adult.

Participants are responsible for their own belongings and vehicles while on walks.

If a walker has a disability or is on medication the organisers need to know.

Please ensure you read the disclaimer when booking and fully understand it before booking.

Heads Up

Because of all our sensitive wildlife areas, people should assume dogs aren’t appropriate unless the walk info specifically indicates it is dog friendly.

It is super important to every New Zealander that we leave this beautiful land in good condition for generations to come. With that in mind we suggest you read the following articles and take the recommendations on board.
